About Meghan and Her Art
Meghan McDermott is an artist and illustrator living in County Meath. She has always loved animals and art and this work is where she gets to bring these two loves together to create special art for her clients.
Her house growing up always had dogs running around and safe to say she was obsessed – her first word was ‘dog’ and she used it to pester her poor Dad until she eventually got a little terrier of her own. When she wasn’t out playing with Sandy, Koby and Scrap, Meghan was spotting wildlife down by the river and taking horse riding lessons in her local riding school.
As a teenager, Meghan was lucky enough to be introduced to oil painting by Patrick Reel, a professional artist. Patsy has remained a friend and mentor, kindly critiquing sketches and helping source new materials to try out. Meghan completed her degree in Design for Stage and Screen in 2018 and worked as a freelance designer for several years before moving abroad to the Netherlands.
When she moved away from home she had to leave the family dogs behind with her parents (their actual owners, no matter what Jake the spaniel thinks). Once settled in the Netherlands, Meghan wanted a small reminder of the family mutts to make the new apartment feel like home…and so she painted their portraits and hung them on the wall.
Now that Meghan is back living in her home county, she wants to keep creating these special portraits for people who love their dogs and animals just as much as she does. She paints everything in her home studio – more often than not with Jake sitting at her feet. Each piece is completely bespoke to the client, painted with love and using the best materials so you know you have a piece of artwork to cherish forever.
